What do I do when I’m struggling with my mental health?

You don’t have to figure everything out by yourself. Here are 5 things that will help right now:

  1. Tell someone you trust. You can keep it simple: “I’m having a hard time mentally and could use some support.”

  2. Consider professional support. A therapist, counselor, doctor, or other mental-health professional can help you work out what’s going on and what treatment or support might fit.

  3. Focus on the basics today. Eat something, drink water, get some sleep if you can, and take a short walk or shower. These won't solve everything, but they can make the next few hours more manageable.

  4. Make things smaller. If everything feels overwhelming, pick one task you can manage in the next 10 minutes rather than trying to solve your whole situation.

  5. Avoid isolating yourself. Even sitting with someone, talking on the phone, or being somewhere around other people can help when you're having a difficult time.
